Root basketry on the list!
After our 15 years of work the skills of “Root basketry from Silesian Beskidy Mountains” on the Polish list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. It was a heart-warming evening for us in Zakopane during the ceremony!
15 years of cooperation
We cooperate with master Jan Zogata, the great crafter from our region, from 15 years of Serfenta’s work. It wasn’t so easy at the beginning but it was so precious. But in these years many great friends were also working for the same goal – Kasia Rucka-Ryś Muzeum Regionalne „Na Grapie” w Jaworzynce, Agata Mucha Narodowy Instytut Dziedzictwa.
We prepared a program “master of tradition” for master Jan, and from this time we also cooperate with his pupil Bartek Juroszek. We organised many workshops with master Jan – for people from Poland, for people from abroad like Evey Kwong, for people from PL/UK Norm Tighe. We’ve been even travelling with master Jan to Slovakia. Furthermore, we are still selling his unique baskets in our shop serfenta.pl and even in Tokyo, as long as we can.
The ceremony – root basketry on the Polish ICH list!
We wish he can’t be there on the stage with us during this evening when the Ministerstwo Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego invited us for the ceremony. But he is taking care of his health (he is over 80 now) and he decided to stay at home. Paulina Adamska (Serfenta) and Kasia Rucka-Ryś (muzeum na grapie) and Agata Mucha (Narodowy Instytut Dziedzictwa) were representing the whole team. So we need to visit him after and we need to tell how was it! 🙂 The certificate is in his hands now.
It was a long way, dear friends. We all are so proud, please enjoy this evening with us, again and again. 🙂
