Dear friends in basketry and craft, basketry summer is already here, and we want to share with you events and ideas for this year!
We share the great news: we have a great conjunction of basketry events happening in Europe this year! And we have an idea – if you are going to visit any of those events, maybe you would like to take part in more basketry experiences?
If yes, we are going to propose something to you! As you know, recently Polish basketry has been inscribed on UNESCO’s list of the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity – that’s a great opportunity to celebrate together!
A great conjunction of basketry events
But let’s start from the beginning – three great craft events happening this summer:
These dates are quite close in the calendar year 2026, so if you are interested in participating, that’s a great idea for travelling from one to another and to see something more inbetween those dates/ or before /or after!
20-23.08. The first one is the Jagiellonian Fair in Lublin / east of Poland:

Visit Poland, visit Serfenta and try Polish basketry
So if you are going to visit Poland anyway, to join the festivals or just to travel, or you are coming to Lichtenfels, that’s also a nice idea to travel to Cieszyn, to join our basketry activities and workshops!

Cieszyn Old town 
We have our headquarters and basketry studio here; this is the heart of Serfenta’s everyday life. We’ve got many propositions of craft experience workshops – you will not find typical materials in our offer.
We love straw (two techniques) and cattail (Typha latifolia) but also we can offer rattan and willow weaving. You can check it on our website, or we can prepare something especially for you, depending on what you are interested in. Tell us more!

We will be happy to have you here and to share with you our work, knowledge, and experience, but also we want to invite you to enjoy our place of life. Cieszyn is really exceptional, one town in 2 countries with an old beautiful architecture, an old town, Castle Hill and a view of the mountains. Being here is like being, at the same time, in Poland and the Czech Republic! By the way – the easy way to reach Cieszyn is to take a direct train from Prague!

GPS project – education
Serfenta is a part of the project GPS (Germany-Poland-Slovakia), new ways to basketry education. We want to share our skills and knowledge with you!

The project is funded within the Erasmus+ Vocational Education and Training (VET) program and allows us to travel to all of our 3 countries to know, share, and understand the cores of our work.
Why Serfenta?
Serfenta has worked for over 18 years in the field of modern and business approach to basketry craft. The experts who create the organisation, Paulina Adamska and Łucja Cieślar (together with business advisor Urszula Szwed) designed their own Business Model “Innovation model of Craft Revitalisation”. It helps to carry out the activities. Their goals include sharing, promoting, and managing knowledge about the intangible heritage of basketry. Serfenta’s activities cover workshops and expert events; talks about the meeting point between cultural anthropology, craft, and market; and bringing the craft experience to everyone.
They teach those who then teach others to spread the knowledge and skills of basketry. Serfenta is one of three Polish NGOs that are accredited by UNESCO. In 2024 we received Europa Nostra Award for the unique ideas of education in craft, in 2022 the Jeonju International Award for Promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage (JIAPICH), with a strong focus on sustainable business. The organisation is also a finalist of the New European Bauhaus Award 2023 with the “Innovation Model of Craft Revitalisation”. In 2025 Serfenta represented Polish heritage in Osaka, at the economy conference during the EXPO 2025. A partner at Craft Days 2026, an exhibition and workshops by Vogue, Warszawa. In 2025 Polish basketry craft was signed at UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List.
