The Serfenta Association exists so that basketry could live. Our work is meant to preserve the tradition and knowledge passed on from generation to generation. We travel to distant places to learn everything about basketry. We teach young people to become experts in a dying skill. We help master basket makers get into the market. We show this beautiful craft to the whole world.

The exhibition “Let it weave!”

The exhibition presents the works of both traditional folk artists and representatives of basketry crafts, as well as contemporary artists and designers, basing on traditional basketry materials and techniques. In addition to showing the beauty and variety of hand-made products, we wanted to present the man himself as the author of the presented works. Hence portraits of basketry-makers with fragments of their original statements. We put a high emphasis on the social context of basketry as a profession. We introduce not only its beauty, but also an economic background.

The main theme of the exhibition is a meeting. We have a lot of these meetings behind us, and each was unique. Getting to the individuals and their personal stories was possible by making in-depth ethnographic interviews. Expeditions were carried out mainly in Poland, but also abroad – so far we visited locations of Lviv District in Ukraine and Lower Lusatia in Germany.

The arrangement of the exhibition introduces the process of conducting discussions, interviews and surveys with the usual people. Visiting it means the gradual discovery of the creator – basketry-maker's by the researcher.

The exhibition includes dozens of colourful, large-format photographs, about 100 items – tools, templates, materials, as well as the screening of a documentary titled „Co ty pleciesz?" ["What are you plaiting?"] made during field studies of the Association (2009-2011).
